ARLINGTON (AP) A North Texas assistant police chief will not be charged after being accused of domestic violence.

A Tarrant County grand jury on Wednesday declined to indict James Hawthorne, the assistant police chief in Arlington. Hawthorne was arrested last year after being accused of assault by his wife.

Hawthorne was subsequently placed on paid administrative leave. His wife then said she wouldn't cooperate with the investigation due to 'inaccuracies' that had been reported about the case.

A spokeswoman for Tarrant County prosecutors said grand jurors heard from 'multiple witnesses,' but declined to comment further on the proceeding.
