Facebook messages on Robert Earley's wall went from concern to contempt Wednesday; one friend writing, 'How could you?' as news surfaced in his social circle that he is under arrest for the murder of his girlfriend, Richardson ISD teacher Emily Lambert.
'My staff is broken up, and we're very disheartened right now,' said O. Henry Elementary School Principal Glenda Howell.
Robert Earley was arrested and booked at 1 a.m. Wednesday in Carlsbad, New Mexico. That's where Lambert's trip to visit Earley went violently wrong.
A criminal complaint says Earley gave police different versions of what happened over the weekend, but eventually admitted he got in a fight with Lambert at the Carlsbad motel where he was living while working in the area.
The documents say Earley punched and kicked Lambert in the mouth until she was unconscious. He then loaded her into his car, and when she came to, they started fighting again.
That's when police say Earley admitted to beating Lambert, then using his car to drag her.
It was a violent death for a beloved teacher.
'We just want to support Emily's family and do what we can to support her students and her learners,' Howell said.
At O. Henry Elementary in Garland, where Lambert taught, there's a deep sense of sadness for the math and science teacher. She leaves behind two daughters as well.
Lambert was a 2002 graduate of Trinity High School in Euless.
Earley is in jail on a no-bond hold, according to staff at the Eddy County Detention Center in New Mexico.
Lambert's ex-husband said her memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 745 West Pipeline Road, in Hurst.
A Facebook page has information about memorial fund being set up for Lambert's daughters.
