ROCKWALL - Imagine getting your car stuck in the water at Lake Ray Hubbard.

That's what happened to two young women last month and they almost drowned. But they're alive Tuesday thanks to one man - Deputy Keven Rowan.

He was honored today at the Rockwall County Commissioners Court for his heroic efforts and saving two lives. He received two life-saving bars for his uniform, along with a standing ovation from everyone in the room.

If you recall from last month, this amazing rescue was caught all on tape. Rowan's dash-cam was rolling when he plunged into the fifty-two degree water to pull the young women to safety. Moments before, they had gotten lost while driving home from dinner. The driver had mistaken a boat ramp for an access road which landed the car in the water.

Deputy Rowan had to shatter a window to pull them out of the sinking car, and neither of the women knew how to swim.

Well, if we're all panicking, there's going to be chaos, Rowan said. So I don't know - I just stayed calm, walked in the water, and got them out. I never expected any of this. I felt like I went to work and everybody got to go home and that's the point of our job, y'know? that's the goal every day.

Rowan was very appreciative for all the recognition he's received. He's also been honored by the city council and other local organizations. Tuesday the sheriff told the court the story gets better and better the more you hear it.
