A new study suggests that parents should follow that old saying spare the rod, spoil the child . Michigan researchers say young children, ages 2 through 6, who were spanked by their parents, fared better as teenagers.

But spanking opponents are skeptical of the study. They say research proves that spanking is a detriment to a child's well-being.
