FORT WORTH Fort Worth police on a robbery sting operation opened fire Tuesday afternoon after a suspect displayed a weapon.

One suspect was shot and wounded and was taken to a hospital for treatment. A second suspect was taken into custody at an adjoining apartment complex.

No officers were injured.

The incident happened about 2:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of McCart Avenue, near Wedgeworth Park in southwest Fort Worth.

According to police, officers had been conducting a sting operation for the suspects, who investigators believe are responsible for a series of robberies.

The suspects would allegedly offer tennis shoes for sale on Facebook, then rob their victim when he arrived for the transaction.

Police said zero tolerance, robbery and undercover narcotics officers were involved in the sting operation.

Investigators said they are interested in hearing from anyone who may have been a victim of this or similar schemes.
