ALLEN Allen police say texting while driving may have led to a deadly crash that killed a 17-year-old student from Allen High School.
Police say Emily Stambaugh hit a curb, struck a tree and then smashed her car into a stone wall.
They believe the teen was texting and driving when she ran into a curb on Exchange Parkway, a few miles northwest of the high school.
'The phone was found in close proximity to her,' said Sgt. Jon Felty, Allen police spokesman. 'And we spoke with two people she had been texting to in the afternoon.'
Making this accident even more tragic is the condition of Stambaugh's father.
'Her father is awaiting an organ transplant and his condition right now is fragile,' Felty said.
Students learned about her death Friday morning at school. Moments later, messages began to fill her Facebook timeline and flowers were placed at the site of the crash.
'It's very hard because the whole Allen High School is a big family,' said Bailey Beam, a student. 'And we treat everybody like it's our family. It's just terrible to see someone go at such a young age.'
Some Allen students said there's going to be a whiteout at the Allen/Plano game Friday night. They're asking students to wear white to remember their classmate.
