Corsicana police shot and killed a man with a gun early Saturday morning.

According to a statement issued by Chief Randy Bratton's office, officers were dispatched to the Cottonwood Trailer Park at 1:30 a.m. to investigate a man who had fired a weapon in the air. Witnesses told police he might be suicidal.

Officers ordered the man to drop his handgun but he refused first pointing the weapon at his head and then taking aim at a police officer and firing more than one shot, according to the official statement.

Two officers returned fire, killing the 21-year-old suspect. His name was not released.

The officers were not injured. Police declined to identify them. They will be subject to a routine internal investigation and have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Texas Rangers will investigate the circumstances of the shooting.
