ARLINGTON -- Rob Maiden and his 15-year-old son were in the national spotlight Monday night while Maiden's wife Ladonna watched from home on the couple's wedding anniversary.
'This is an opportunity they just need to take and enjoy themselves. And he'll make good on it, he always does,' she said.
The father-son bonding trip to the Final Four championship game took a turn no one expected.
'I got some incredible news for you, man,' Rob Maiden said to his son on Tuesday. 'Because we did that dance last night, it went viral. Not only do we have WFAA here filming us, we are headed to New York for a national TV show.'
It was a surprise neither of them expected.
'Never in my wildest dreams did I think, 12 hours later, I'd be talking to you all,' Maiden said.
The elder Maiden's dance moves are legendary in Dallas. As captain of the Mavs ManiAACs, Maiden and the other ManiAACs entertain crowds regularly. For 15-year-old Trey, dancing for the Final Four crowd was a bit overwhelming.
'At first it was kind a nervous. My stomach was hurting and stuff, but after we did it I was feeling much better,' Trey said.
The father-son duo decided to choreograph the dance over the weekend, just for fun.
'Sundaynight, he and my other son and one of their buddies, we stood around and danced and played music, and I said, 'Let's put this together, let's make this funny, I think people will like it,'' Maiden said.
And like it they did.
The crowd went wild -- and the video went viral -- over moves that thousands agree were pure magic.
'They love them like I love them. I'm just overwhelmed right now. I'm excited, I'm happy for them,' Ladonna said.
