DALLAS Dallas County Commissioners say there was a run on tickets Tuesday for this year's KwanzaaFest.
The holiday celebration was canceled at one point due to declining sponsorships and rising costs. But then sponsors and donors stepped up.
KwanzaaFest is the largest fair held in Dallas County each year. And on Tuesday, commissioners called it not just a good time, but an event that could possibly save lives.
The HealthFest held in conjunction with KwanzaaFest has conducted 175,000 health screenings over the past five years, and there is a new benefit this year.
'It has become a kind of annual medical home for a number of individuals,' said Commissioner John Wiley Price, one of the founders of the fair. 'This year we will also try to help people navigate and understand the Affordable Health Care options out there.'
The 2013 Kwanzaafest is Saturday and Sunday in the Automobile Building at Dallas Fair Park. Admission is free, but a ticket is required.
