ROANOKE - A North Texas town is about to double its size for the weekend. When it's over, thousands of people will be covered in mud and Roanoke will have gotten an economic boost.

Jailbreak 2010 is a 3.8-mile adventure race. Participants will clamber over, slither under and hurdle across 14 obstacles. The race takes place September 18 and 19 at the DFW Adventure Park. The park is located on the edge of Roanoke, in Northlake's ETJ.

When it rains, this gets sloppy, said Tim Scrivner, the president of Jailbreak.

The event includes beer, barbecue, a band and a big-screen broadcasting of the weekend s football games.About 9,000 people have signed up from across the nation.

We've got folks coming from as far away as Alaska, Scrivner said.

That means the race will have another winner, the town of Roanoke with a population of 7,500.

I believe this will bring tens of thousands of folks into town, said Mayor Scooter Gierisch.

Gierisch reported that one of the town s two hotels is already booked solid.

At least 2,000 spots are still available for Sunday's race on September 19. The race takes place in waves throughout the day, so the course does not become overcrowded. Participants choose their time slot during registration.

A percentage of proceeds will go to Sower of Seeds to build water wells in India. For more information on Jailbreak 2010, visit
