DENTON--FrankHoward has been found guilty of attempted capital murder in the murder-for-hire plot to kill his wife.

It took the jury two hours to make a decision after closing arguments were presented Tuesday morning. They found Howard guilty of hiring a hit man to kill his now ex-wife, Nancy. She was shot in the face and lost her eye, but survived the attack.

Prosecutors told jurors Frank Howard was not only having an affair, but wanted his wife dead so he could be with his mistress. They said Howard paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to a hit man and accomplices to have Nancy Howard killed two years ago.

Carrollton police later arrested Frank Howard and several others.

Defense attorneys said Frank Howard was having an affair, but that doesn't mean he paid to have his wife killed. They said the money he was transferring into accounts could have been for drugs or possible blackmail, but not for a hit.

The couple's three adult children testified on Tuesday, saying they didn't think their father was guilty.

The punishment phase of the trial started Tuesday afternoon.
