FLOWER MOUND Seventeen-year-old Max Schwolert was young, healthy and strong.

He died four days after Christmas, a victim of the flu.

On Saturday morning, a memorial service were held for Max at The Village Church in Flower Mound.

He fell ill right while visiting relatives in Wisconsin. The flu developed into pneumonia and a staph infection.

Max was a senior on the Flower Mound Marcus golf team and was extremely active at Faith Lutheran Church.

"The message of the service was, 'Love god, love people,'" said Phil Schwolert, Max's uncle. That was Max's life. That's how he lived it. And that's what has really been kind of revealed by the number of people who showed up here."

Max Schwolert had not received a flu shot this season. Since his death, many North Texans have been inspired to seek out the vaccination.

Donations in Max's memory are being accepted by the Love to the Max Youth Ministry Fund.
