There was a trial this week in San Angelo over a man claiming divine knowledge. The man threatened the judge in his case, others involved, and said God will soon send punishment; he's half right. It's this week's Uncut commentary.

The trial was over whether Warren Jeffs, the professed spiritual leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, should be having sex with girls as young as 12, claiming them as his wife and insisting that his intimate relations with them constitutes a service he provides in the name of Jesus.

Prosecutors played an audio tape of the 55-year-old assaulting his 12-year-old bride.

Jeffs, acting as his own attorney, linked himself to the civil rights movement and the Constitution. He called the trial a violation of freedom of religion.

In reality, Jeffs confuses our freedom for his licentiousness. He has gone against every church and every state.

There is no chapter, no verse of a Holy book, no law in any state permitting any man or woman to do what he has done. It's a pretty simple case really; he's a pedophile.

He wants to have sex with little girls, so he's hiding behind Jesus to do just that. Fortunately, the jurors in his case saw through the sham and took little time to convict him.

Jeffs ideas about religion are so very wrong, but he is right about one thing, there will be a judgment. He must have missed the sermon preached long ago that some people on their way to hell are having such a good time, they forget about where they're going.

My thoughts tell me yours, jmccaa@wfaa com.
