FORT WORTH -- A man was killed in a hit-and-run Monday morning on an east Fort Worth street.
Fort Worth Police Corporal Tracey Knight said the 45-to-50-year-old man was hit around 8 a.m. in the 7000 block of Beaty St. The victim was thrown at least 25 feet into a neighbor's front yard.
Tony Rackstraw, who is a licensed EMT, said he and others approached the man and tried to help but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
'I just knew right away he was gone,' Rackstraw said. 'He was hit from the end of their driveway and ended up near my tree.'
Witnesses saw a white SUV leave the scene, and officers located the vehicle and driver about a half-mile away.
The family of the driver, who is a young mother, said the woman is a diabetic. She was interviewed by Fort Worth police and then released.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
The man wasn't carrying any ID. He did have a cell phone on him, according to witnesses.
