Could more drones soon take flight over North Texas?

Earlier this month, we told you that the City of Arlington had received permission from the FAA to fly two small remote-controlled helicopters. They are among fewer than 400 permits the FAA has issued across the country.

But that number is expected to rise to 30,000 over the next two decades.

Drones are creating issues of privacy and public safety for lawmakers on both the state and national levels.

Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) co-sponsored a bill in Congress requiring that government agencies get warrants before using drones to collect information.

And State Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Terrell) filed a bill at the State Capitol to ban drones from recording images of public property without a search warrant. So far, that plan has the support of about 100 house members from both parties.
