GARLAND Garland police are investigating a double shooting that left a man dead early Saturday morning and a second injured.

Officers were called to the Taco Bell at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Garland Road at about 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found two men shot in a white pickup truck that was parked next to the restaurant. The driver's side window was shot out.

There were cops all right here lined up. That was kind of weird to me because I haven't seen anything like that, said Jesus Perez, who was just coming in to work.

One man died at Doctors Hospital while the other is stable at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Dallas police were initially investigating, however Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said they learned the crime took place inside Garland city limits and took over about an hour later. The shooting, Harn said, happened around Jupiter Road and LBJ Freeway, roughly two miles from where the men were found.

Because of the darkness of the windows and the chaos in the truck we do not have a good description of the shooter [or where] he was shooting from, said Joe Harn with Garland Police.

The victim who died was Miguel Moncada, a 20-year-old from Dallas. The surviving victim is now cooperating with police.

Julie Han saw all the morning police activity. In her seven years at a nearby donut shop, she said she's never seen anything like this.

It's scary. It's scary. And we come at like 2 in the morning so yeah it's dangerous, said Han.

Garland Police say it's likely a handgun was used. There are just too many unknowns and now it needs the public's help.

We are looking at everything. Could it have been road rage? Somebody they knew? We simply don't know right now, said Harn.

If you have any information you are urged to call Garland Police at 972-485-4840.
