MESQUITE - Two people were injured when a tractor trailer overturned on the ramp from westbound U.S. Highway 80 to northbound Interstate 635 at about 3 a.m. Thursday morning in Mesquite.

The driver lost control of the truck, which slammed on its side, hitting a concrete pillar and bursting into flames. The driver was pulled out of the truck by emergency crews. Both he and a female passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital.

While News 8 was informed they were both conscious, the extent of their injuries were unknown.

The truck was hauling chicken, which was thrown across the interstate during the crash.

Part of northbound LBJ Freeway was closed for nearly five hours as crews worked to check the integrity of the bridge and clean up debris from the crash.
