MCKINNEY - There are just a little over 50 days until North Texas hosts the Super Bowl, and some hotels up to an hour away from the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington are already full.

Two of those fully booked hotels are in McKinney.

Don Day, who owns the Grand Hotel McKinney in the downtown square, said even he was even surprised to see the hotel fully booked during the event. It s not the location most would expect to fill up less than two months before Super Bowl XLV.

We are totally booked Super Bowl weekend, he said. We're not taking any more reservations.

The hotel owner said it s the same story at McKinney's other full-service hotel, the Holiday Inn Express that is located just off Central Expressway.

The Super Bowl Host Committee asked Day if he wanted to participate in their Fan Housing Program. As a result, half his rooms are blocked out for minimum three night stays.

We didn't realize what a big deal the Super Bowl is in your city, but we now have some understanding of the magnitude of the economic benefits, Day said.

There's another big reason why the Grand is already booked.Day said Collin County Regional Airport has cleared space for up to 50 private jets to land.Since the airport is located out of the U.S. Homeland Security no-fly zone, it will stay open prior to and during the big game.

They expect the private jets to come in here for the Super Bowl and be parked all weekend, Day said. And those are not just your fans, but the crews have to have some place to stay for the weekend.

More than 24,000 other hotel rooms are under contract for use by the NFL during the Super Bowl. They include establishments in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties.
