DALLAS - In Wednesday s After The Bell report, a Dallas program teaches children the ropes of journalism.
The kids participating in the Junior Reporter program at the Roseland After School Academy are ready to break a story, video cell phones in hand. They meet with adviser Shawn Williams, the president and editor of Dallas South News, every Thursday afternoon.
It s real fun because we get to meet people that we re just now noticing and we get to learn about their life, said Joshua Lathan, 10.
Children in the program meets every Thursday.
Their eagerness to get in front of people and not be afraid to ask them questions, get their responses [and] their boldness has been a big surprise to me, he said.
Joshua Lathan said he would have loved to interview Michael Jackson.
What was is like being on stage and how did he know how to do the moonwalk?, he said of the question he would have asked the King of Pop.
The students are learning you re never too young to ask probing questions
This is the first year of the Junior Reporters program. They hope to expand it next year.
