UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Amber Alert issued for two children in University Park Friday afternoon has been canceled.

Both children were found safe in a hotel where their non-custodial father had checked in under an alias. Hotel staff recognized the suspect after the Amber Alert was issued.

The Amber Alert was issued at 5:30 p.m. Friday for siblings Elle Holland, 12, and Asher Holland, 8, who were last seen in University Park. The alert for Asher was discontinued briefly by the Texas Department of Public Safety before it was reissued.

The suspect in the case is a non-custodial parent, Clifford Holland, 43. University Park police spokesperson Lita Snellgrove said the father picked up the children from their home on Wednesday afternoon, but he did not have visitation rights and was not supposed to take them.

According to police, the mother of the children contacted them on Wednesday, but it did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert at that time. She spoke to the children on Thursday, then a local judge assisted in having the Amber Alert issued Friday.

The children are now back with their mother.
