Dallas County will spray a swath of Oak Cliff in the 75208 ZIP code for West Nile overnight on Monday.

The county's Health and Human Services department sends word that the area in question is bordered on the north by Commerce Street, on the west by Darien Street, Interstate 30 on the south and Sylvan Road on the east.

A mosquito pool near the 1500 block of Walmsley Avenue tested positive for West Nile virus this week. While the Environmental Protection Agency has deemed the insecticide safe, residents in that area are asked to stay inside or remain in their vehicles with the air conditioning on.

Says the county:

"Persons out during the scheduled spraying time should be alert for trucks and should not follow them. Residents who come in contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. The spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect."

Dallas County recorded its first human case of West Nile on June 24. However, DCHHS Director Zach Thompson has expressed concern that the late diagnosis may be because of tougher state standards on what constitutes a human case of West Nile.
