WEST When an old, green bus rolled into West on Friday followed by a large UHaul some people couldn't help but stare.

The bus was driven by reality TVstar Tim Smith of the Discovery Channel show "Moonshiners."But Smith is also the chief of the volunteer department in Climax, Va.

He's been on the road since Monday all in an effort to bring supplies, thousands of dollars in donations and actual firefighting equipment to firefighters of West.

"Anything we can do to make it a bit easier, we gotta' do it," he said.

Along the way, Smith stopped at more than a dozen local departments in states like Georgia, Alabama and Louisania.

He actually persuaded a few other firefighters from those departments to drop their busy weeks and tag along to show solidarity toward the firefigthers in West.

"I've been real anxious to get here and help," said Rhett Burdette, who came in from Pell City, Alabama.

During the afternoon, Smith and crew met with some of the West department,which went through two additional funerals on Friday.

Smithand company planned to stay on for at least the night topitch in and help.

Fifteen people were killed 12 of whom were first responders when the West Fertilizer Co. exploded on April 17. West residents who had homes damaged or destroyed by the explosion and subsequent fire can return to their neighborhoods Saturday at 7 a.m.
