FORTWORTH - The driver of a van that crashed into a Fort Worth house and fled the scene was taken into custody for questioning Tuesday morning.

Five people, including three children and their two grandparents, were inside the home, located in the 6700 block of Westcreek Dr., at the time of the crash. The van drover through a living room and pushed a couch into the bedroom where a 7 and 8 year old were sleeping, but no one was harmed inside.

"The kids were frightened," said Christine Vidales, the children's aunt. "They were screaming and crying."

After pulling the children out of the heavily damaged bedroom, the grandparents found the van with keys in the ignition and no one inside.

Police were alerted to the crash at about 5:28 a.m.

Less than 30 minutes after the crash, the driver returned to the scene, telling police he was carjacked. Police said he then changed his story, saying he was shaken up and lost control of the vehicle because he was carjacked but was able to escape just before the crash.

Authorities said they found no evidence to back up his story and took him into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
