NEWS 8 EXCLUSIVE

DALLAS Dallas Cowboys cornerback Bryan McCann was arrested by Dallas police early Saturday morning and charged with public intoxication.

McCann was taken to Dallas city detox center around 3 a.m. and released almost eight hours later.

Details of what led to his arrest have not been released, but officers must consider someone a danger to themselves or others to arrest them for public intoxication.

The 2010 season was McCann's rookie year with the Cowboys. He is perhaps best remembered for scoring on a team record 101-yard interception return in a November 14 game against the New York Giants.

The next week, the former SMU standout grabbed a punt that had been batted down and scrambled 97 yards for a touchdown in a game against the Detroit Lions.

McCann signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. He played a total of 48 games at SMU, more than any other player in his graduating class. He was an all-freshman Conference USA pick.

McCann graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City.

He was expected to sign a new contract with the Cowboys once the NFL lockout is resolved.
