SAN ANTONIO Dez Bryant vowed he'd be at camp on time, and Thursday's development confirms it. The Cowboys and the 24th overall pick agreeing to terms today on a contract, meaning he'll be here for the start of training camp.

Bryant's deal apparently worth $11.8 million over five years, with $8.5 million guranteed.

This was very important to me to be able to get this done in time for the first practice, said Bryant. I want to help this team. I want to compete. I can't wait to start playing football again.

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I saw Bryant on Channel 8 a couple of days ago proclaiming he'd be here on time. My first reaction was his agent certainly didn't want to hear that.

But apparently none of that mattered. Bryant made a point to be here on time, and it can only help the rap on his college days about being late all the time.

There was also a theory out there that it would be hard to sign first-rounders this year because of the league's uncertain financial future. The Cowboys and Bryant bucking that possible trend.
