LEWISVILLE Firefighters extinguished a three-alarm fire that was started in a kitchen where a resident said he was heating up grease early Tuesday morning in Lewisville.

Cody Baker, a resident at the Autumn Breeze Apartments, said the fire started in his unit. Baker said he works a job from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. and started cooking when he got home.

'Fell asleep while the grease was going,' Baker said. 'I woke up to smoke and got my family out.'

Baker said he attempted to go back inside and extinguish the blaze but was hit by flames in his face.

'I had to crawl out,' he said.

Once out, Baker said he went door to door alerting neighbors of the fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire just before 6:30 a.m.

Flower Mound and Coppell firefighters assisted Lewisville crews at the scene. Red Cross was also at the scene assisting displaced residents.

It appeared several units were severely damaged, but authorities have yet to release a specific number. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

No one was injured.
