FORT WORTH -- Grocer giant Whole Foods announced Wednesday it will soon open its first store in the city of Fort Worth.

The 45,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in Spring 2016 in the new Waterside development being constructed on the old site of the Lockheed Martin Recreation area off Bryant Irvin Road. News 8 first reported on the store four months ago.

In a joint news release with the developers, Whole Foods CEO Mark Dixon said 'We are excited to open a Fort Worth store and to be a part of the Conscious Place collaboration with Trademark.'

Plans for the new development call for 180,000 square feet of retail stores and restaurant, and 20-to-30 acres of multi-family housing and townhouses along the Trinity River.
