HOUSTON A unique art show at the Houston Zoo Thursday will feature paintings by elephants and orangutans.

The artists used everything from bamboo stalks and ginger leaves to their hooves and 'fingers' to create the paintings.

No matter how they do it, painting provides zoo animals an outlet to express their intelligence, personalities and abilities.

The paintings will be exhibited and sold at Pongos Helping Pongos, which raises money for orangutan conservation in Southeast Asia. Since 2004, the event has raised more than $200,000.

Pongos is a scientific name for orangutans.
