DALLAS A suspect was shot and five people were detained at the scene of a standoff at a Dallas home early Wednesday morning.

The incident began with an altercation between a suspect identified as Rene Hernandez and Dallas officers after authorities received a narcotics call.

According to police, officers investigating in the 4200 block of Elmira Street were approached by two suspects, Hernandez, who was armed.

Senior Cpl. John Casey opened fire on Hernandez, who was transported to Baylor University Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Hernandez, 39, is on parole for murder, and detectives are working to revoike his parole.

He will be charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police said other suspects at the scene fled and barricaded themselves inside a residence. SWAT officers detained five people for questioning.

Authorities said they located a second suspect at a home on Lovett Avenue, who was also taken into custody but later released pending further investigation.
