CLEBURNE -- Texans are loading up the fireworks, and firing up the outboards. But many boaters will find it's no picnic getting onto North Texas lakes this 4th of July.

The public boat ramp at Lake Pat Cleburne, for instance, can handle small craft okay, but low water makes it hard for bigger boats. So hard that the chamber of commerce canceled this year's holiday parade of boats.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Tarrant Regional Water District say all their lakes are low. Most ramps are open, but some are unusable.

Officials say boaters could also find unexpected sandbars.

The good news is, fire marshals in Tarrant, Parker, Hood, and other counties don't expect any July 4th burn bans. Officials say they will issue statements because of the deepening drought, but will allow fireworks in areas that permit them.
