DALLAS With a recent survey putting the average cost of a weddingat $27,800, most brides are looking for any way to cut costs.
So, imagine paying the same price for your wedding dress as you do your phone bill?
It sounds impossible, but it's now doable at the Salvation Army's yearly Chic Boutique.
We have everything. We have such a variety of dresses, said Margaret Hancock, an organizer of the event.
Dozens of bridal gowns are up for sale, and have never worn before.
A Lewisville bridal store shut down and donated the dresses to the Salvation Army. Now proceeds will go back into the community.
The average price, we're told, is around $3,000, said Hancock.
But shop at the Chic Boutique for bridal and you will pay less, for sizes ranging from 4 to 12.
The most expensive dress is $299, but you can shop for as cheap as $50.
Organizers hope to get a rush of brides, like in Chicago, at the famous Filene's Basement sale.
Someone said:'Is this Filene s Basement?' I was like wouldn't it be wonderful to have our own here at the Christmas warehouse, said Hancock.
There are gowns made by top designers, including Armani. This sale is what they call labelicious.
The names are the most elite in fashion - Badgley Mischka, Chanel, Escada.
Designer suits, originally priced at $2,000, are sold for $20. Necklaces are sold for $1.
Christian Louboutin shoes are on sale for $30.
The sale extends way beyond bridal, to help the Salvation Army support more than 70 organizations, year round.
There's a line, so be first in line, said Hancock.
The sale is free and open to the public, next Wednesday and Thursday, May 5th and 6th, at the Salvation Army warehouse at 9216 Harry Hines in Dallas.
