Fort Worth police arrested a theft suspect Saturday evening after a 30-minute pursuit that with the car ablaze.

It all started with a disturbance at the Walmart store on Clifford Street, just west of Loop 820. Police said the suspect was known to store security personnel.

The man fled when police arrived, leading officers on a half-hour chase that ended around 6:30 p.m. in White Settlement after 'stop sticks' were used to blow out the tires of the suspect's vehicle.

'Our neighbors said that car tried to run him off the road and that police were after him,' said White Settlement resident Lesa Thompson. 'Next thing he knew, it was on fire behind our houses.'

'We watched as the car started smoking, and then the fire flashed, and grew and engulfed the car,' Thompson added.

Fort Worth police spokesman Cpl. Tracey Knight said the suspect was arrested on multiple charges including theft and evading arrest and also for outstanding warrants. His name was not released.

It was not immediately clear what caused the car to erupt in flames.
