Arlington police said a store clerk has been arrested after a suspected shoplifter was shot and killed Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived at Smokin' Dragon Gifts in the 5900 block of South Cooper Street, they found two men holding two other men at gunpoint.

Witnesses told investigators that a customer in the store had attempted to steal an item and the clerk, identified as 28-year-old Brian Lambert of River Oaks, opened fire as the man attempted to flee.

The shooting victim's name was not released pending official identification. Police said he was not armed.

Lambert was taken into custody and is facing a murder charge. Bail has not been set.
