FLOWERMOUND State health officials say they've found no evidence of a cancer cluster in Flower Mound.

An analysis of cancer cases in the community was released today by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The study was prompted by concerns about the potential health effects of gas drilling.

The analysis looked at occurrences of leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, childhood brain cancer, and female breast cancer from 1998 to 2007 in two ZIP codes that cover most of Flower Mound.

Comparing the results to expected statewide rates of the cancers, the researchers found that the incidence of all but breast cancer was within a statistically normal range.

We found nothing in the data to indicate the community is at higher risk for these types of cancers, said epidemiologist Eric Miller.

However, we understand residents' concerns and will continue to analyze new cancer data from these two areas.
