NFL Commissioner Clears Pacman Jones

5:06 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
George Riba

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed today what Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones said would happen a few days ago. He notified the Cowboys that Adam "Pacman" Jones may participate in organized team activities, including practice, beginning on Monday, November 24.

Jones will be fully reinstated for the Cowboys' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, December 7th if he avoids any further incidents and fully complies with each and ...

Stars Captain Brenden Morrow Out Indefinitely

4:45 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
George Riba

The Dallas Stars announced today that the left wing Brenden Morrow is out indefinitely with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will require surgery. He is expected to miss up to six months. The club also recalled right wing Landon Wilson from Grand Rapids (AHL).

"We are obviously very disappointed to hear the news about Brenden's knee," said Co-General Manager Les Jackson. "As our captain, he will obviously be mi...

Texas Cheering For Oklahoma? Go Figure!

4:03 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
George Riba

The Texas Tech and Oklahoma game Saturday night has made this a weird week for college football fans, especially those who follow the Texas Longhorns. Texas Tech is playing in another one of their "Biggest Games" in program history, and if your a Texas fan, you may have no choice but to cheer for Oklahoma. How crazy is that? A win by Oklahoma would put Texas right back in the hunt for a National Championship.

I asked Cowboys Wide Rece...

T-O: Please Stop Talking, Start Scoring

3:11 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
David Marcus

I was a very big supporter of T-O coming to the Cowboys, originally. I thought Owens was the kind of frontline receiver that had been lacking at Valley Ranch since the days of Michael Irvin. I also somewhat felt that T-O had been victimized in Philadelphia, caught up in the hailstorm of fan discontent and petty jealousies with Donovan McNabb. Many of T-O's Eagles teammates came out and said they didn't want Owens to leave...that they loved pla...

Terrell Owens speaks out about lack of production

3:08 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
George Riba

We've seen this headline before: "Owens Frustrated with offensive, role," but it showed up again today in the local paper.

Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens talked to former Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders on the NFL network Thursday night. During that interview he said, "For me to have the numbers that I have and not really being involved, it is discouraging."

Owens didn't talk to the media at Valley Ranch on Friday, and ...

Cornerback Terence Newman is hurt again

2:52 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
George Riba

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman wouldn't say whether he is in our out for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

He didn't practice, and when he was leaving the Cowboys practice facility, he wouldn't confirm or deny that he would be able to play on Sunday.

"Terence had a slight (muscle) pull yesterday," said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. "So, he's working through that and we didn't want him to push off on it." Jones said Newman didn...

Terence Newman misses Cowboys practice

2:01 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman missed the team's Friday practice.

Newman has missed most of the season with a sports hernia. He came back to play Sunday against Washington and had a strong game controlling Santana Moss while grabbing a key interception.

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips slyly described Newman missing practice as a "secret."

Details on his apparent injury as we get them, including his status f...

Jerry: Bodyguard gets Pacman blame

12:11 PM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says one of the reasons he's bringing Pacman Jones back is because it was the bodyguard he hired who caused the problem that led to the suspension.

Of course it was. You can't blame Pacman. He's too good.

T.O.: 'I don't like' Cowboys' offense

11:24 AM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Controversial Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens has done it again.

In an interview with former Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders, now of the NFL Network, Owens says the offense and it's coordinator, Jason Garrett, are not getting him the ball enough.

"When I get my hand on the ball things happen. I can't throw it and catch it. I can only do one thing," Owens said "It's not that I can't play, it's the system of which I'm...

DeMarcus Ware a good guy too

9:48 AM Fri, Nov 21, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

Nice story in the Morning News about Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo taking a homeless man to the movies.

Here's another one: Linebacker DeMarcus Ware was signing autographs the other day, a friend of mine buys a picture and wants it signed to his wife Cheryl. Ware spells it with an S, realizes the mistake, tells my buddy to go get one of those jerseys over there and he'll take care of it.

He signs the jersey then says consider i...

Do the Cowboys really need Pacman?

4:28 PM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
George Riba

I can't tell for sure how many of Pacman Jones' teammates are truly excited about having him back. I think if you took a poll, you might be surprised to see how much support from his teammates has deteriorated.

After all, the club has managed to climb out of their death defying spiral without having the troubling cornerback on their team.

So, why should any player on this team be excited about having this guy back on the te...

Big weekend at Texas Stadium

4:18 PM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
Ted Madden

With the Cowboys at home and the high school playoffs in full swing, here's the weekend schedule for football at Texas Stadium:

Friday
6:00 Richardson Pearce vs. Carter
9:00 Rockwal-Heath vs. Hillcrest

Saturday
11:00 Southlake Carroll vs. Cedar Hill
2:00 Wylie vs. Hebron
5:00 Trinity vs. Plano
8:00 Coppell vs. Allen

That is a STRONG line-up ... should be four great, competitive game...

Pacman not back at Valley Ranch, yet

2:17 PM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Unsuspended Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones is not back with his teammates quite yet.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says he expects Pacman back working out Monday.

There has also not been any official word from the NFL on the reinstatement.

Cowboys' Felix Jones out for season

1:38 PM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones will miss the rest of his rookie season.

The electrifying runner and return man will be placed on injured reserve due to a torn ligament in beneath his left big toe.

Jones missed four games with a hamstring injury. Wednesday was his first time back at practice since before his initial injury in the Arizona loss Oct. 12.

"We thought at some time that he'd be back," said head coach...

T.O. back at Valley Ranch

12:23 PM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens was back at Valley Ranch Thursday, a day after being sent home with flu like symptoms.

He was participating fully in the team's afternoon practice and was well enough to play dominoes with his teammates before that.

The Cowboys need Owens because there are only two other healthy receivers on the active roster. Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams worked with the first team Wednesday. >> Continue reading: T.O. back at Valley Ranch

Blast from the past for Dale Hansen

11:09 AM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

On last night's 10 p.m. news, Pete Delkus had another surprise for Dale Hansen.

This time it was someone from Dale's past... Barry Switzer.

You can watch it here, it's worth it.

Many of you probably know the back story.

Dale and the former Cowboys head coach had a heated exchange during training camp back in 1994.

It's probably Dal...

Don't Bury the Mavs Just Yet

10:56 AM Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
David Marcus

Just a week ago, fans were calling yet again for Dirk's exile and the premature end of the Rick Carlisle era. On our nightly call-in show (Sportstalk on Channel 52, KFWD from 6:30-7PM...had to get the plug in), fans were dialing in on a daily basis, demanding the Mavs blow up the team and start over.

Funny what a three game winning streak can do to change things.

I'll say now what I told all those callers. Have patience. This i...

I have no idea why Pacman gets another chance, either

7:07 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

The NFL has decided Pacman Jones deserves yet another chance.

And I have no idea why either.

He spends part of a month at an alcohol rehab center then they say he doesn't have a problem with alcohol.

Hey if you're Pacman Jones you don't ever have a problem.

Jones is coming back, but can't play until the December 7th game in Pittsburgh, so this latest suspension will be 6 games.

And I love this, P...

In Defense of Evan Grant

5:32 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
David Marcus

It's unfortunate how the media, particularly the New England media, has jumped all over Evan Grant today after learning that he had omitted AL MVP Dustin Pedroia from his ballot. If the MVP had perhaps been from a smaller market or one not filled with baseball-crazy nuts like Boston, I'm guessing Grant would probably have flown under the radar.

Alas, that was not to be the case.

I have looked at Grant's ballot and the names he ...

Jerry: Pacman reinstated by NFL

5:10 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The NFL is giving Adam "Pacman" Jones
another chance.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday the suspended
cornerback has been reinstated by league commissioner Roger
Goodell, but will not play this Sunday or the following game on
Thanksgiving. That would peg his return for Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh.

Jerry Jones said Adam Jones could return to practice Monday. The
owner said t...

Mansfield Football makes history

3:38 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Ted Madden

The Mansfield Tigers beat Abilene last Friday night, 20-14 in the first round of the playoffs. It was just one of dozens of scores in the paper Saturday morning, but this one was special. First of all, it was a huge upset, with Mansfield beating a previously unbeaten team, one that was ranked 3rd in the state. The win gave the Tigers a 7-4 record.

But the win was much bigger than that. It was the first time in Mansfield's long history ...

Commish: No time-table for Pacman decision

3:37 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday afternoon that he has no time-table for making a decision on the status of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones.

Jones was suspended following an altercation with a team bodyguard at Dallas' Joule hotel last month.

Goodell later decided to suspend Jones for at least four games for violating the league's conduct policy. The Cowboys win over the Washington Redskin...

Felix Jones at practice for Cowboys

1:39 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

For the first time in a month, Felix Jones is at Dallas Cowboys practice.

The rookie running back was injured in the team's loss to Arizona Oct. 12.

He said last week he hoped to play, but didn't practice and didn't play in win over Washington.

Now it looks like there is a much better chance he will return Sunday against the 49ers.

Romo not sure he'll be around in 2014

12:33 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says he's not sure if he'll be with the Cowboys when the team's new stadium host the Men's Final Four in 2014.

"I might be living back in Wisconsin by that time," Romo said.

Romo would be entering his 12th season in the NFL in 2014 and would be just shy of his 34th birthday.

He said he is afraid the media may run him out town well before then.

T.O. takes a sick day

12:29 PM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens had to go home sick with flu like symptoms.

The star receiver was not at the team's Wednesday afternoon practice.

We first began to see that something may be up when Owens was strangely absent from his usual media session late Wednesday morning in the team's locker room.

Owens has been adamant that during game weeks he will only talk to reporters at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

As...

Amendola....Get in there kid!

11:05 AM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Josh Harvey

Amendola....Get in there kid!

Could we possibly have a Danny Amendola sighting this Sunday against the 49ers? With the injury to Miles Austin, I think there is a good chance we see the Hard Knocks Star.

Last week on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk, Amendola said he has had nothing but support from Cowboys fans and he still feels that he will make a contribution on Sunday at one point.

"The Cowboys fans have had nothing good th...

Cuban in money fight with Nellie too

9:57 AM Wed, Nov 19, 2008 |
Dale Hansen

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban fighting with the SEC about insider trading , is apparently still fighting with former Mavericks coach Don Nelson too.

An arbitrator made a final decision in early September that Cuban owed Nelson $7 million dollars.

Cuban hasn't paid yet, maybe he's waiting on a stock sale to clear.

Should TCU fans be happy or sad?

7:21 PM Tue, Nov 18, 2008 |
Josh Harvey

Earlier today, TCU head coach Gary Patterson addressed the Mountain West Conference media in his weekly telephone conference call.

A few questions about the last game of the season this Saturday with Air Force did come up, but Austin Meek of the Topeka Capital-Journal felt he needed to address Patterson's job rumors.

Reporter: Wondered if you could take us through your initial reaction when that report came out a couple weeks ...

Do You Want Pacman Jones Back?

11:00 AM Tue, Nov 18, 2008 |
David Marcus

Do you remember playing Pacman back in the glory days of video games, in the 80's? They were a particularly embarrassing time for me, but I was always drawn to Pacman like a moth to the flame. The game was just so addictive and I would feed quarter after quarter into the machine, hoping to somehow defeat the thing.

Unfortunately, the real game of Pacman, the one with the Cowboys, can never be won.

Any day now, NFL Comm...

Will the Real Cowboys Please Stand Up?

3:29 PM Mon, Nov 17, 2008 |
David Marcus

Tony Romo returns and all is right with the world again?

Not so fast.

I like the way the Boyz played on Sunday night, but this team has more issues than the status of number nine's pinkie. The defense must continue to play like it did Sunday night, with passion and urgency. If the Cowboys can't get pressure on the quarterback like they did in D.C., it won't matter who's throwing the passes.

San Francisco and Seattle com...

Own a piece of Texas Stadium

Pretty much everything, and I do mean everything, from the locker room urinal to every sign, players benches, lockers, the goal posts, from Texas Stadium is up for auction.

It's kind of sad actually, but it's all yours. It will cost you, too.

An online auction selling it all off is now live.

Mark Cuban a familiar story

11:16 AM Mon, Nov 17, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

No matter how much money someone has they always want more.

It's how the rich get super rich. They're driven to succeed.

Without knowing all the details in this latest example, featuring Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, it looks like the familiar story.

We've seen it with Martha Stewart and her stock sale.

Cuban, whose net worth is estimated around $2.8 billion, would hardly notice the $750,000 he reported ...

Mark Cuban accused of insider trading

10:46 AM Mon, Nov 17, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Federal regulators have charged Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban with insider trading for allegedly using confidential information on a stock sale to avoid more than
$750,000 in losses.

The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil lawsuit
against Cuban on Monday in federal court in Dallas. The agency says
that in June 2004, Cuban was invited to get in on the coming stock
offering by Mamma.c...

Terence Newman shows elite status

11:31 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

In Washington on Santana Moss the entire game, Terence Newman showed he is an elite corner back in the NFL.

Now he just has to stay healthy.

Moss, a known Cowboys killer, who torched Newman and the rest of the secondary for 145 yards.

This time Newman was better.

Moss had five catches, but for just 29 yards.

Newman had an interception that thwarted a likely Redskins scoring drive.

...

Romo has mixed return

10:20 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The most important stat: 14-10. The Dallas Cowboys won and it may have had more to do with just having Tony Romo back than anything he actually did.

Most of the Cowboys offense consisted of short passes and a lot of running with Marion Barber.

Romo finished 19 of 27 passing for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Not horrible and one of the interceptions was a strange play where a ball hit Terrell Owens in the hand...

Cowboys get much needed win

10:14 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

At this point in a tumultuous season a 14-10 win for the Dallas Cowboys sounds pretty good.

Marion Barber ran for 114 yards and a touchdown and added six receptions for 39 yards.

What's bigger? Barber accounted for every yard on the Cowboys last drive to eat up the clock to secure the win.

...

Barber gets BIG first down

10:07 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

It will go down as a three yard run, but Marion Barber's outside run to the right on fourth and two gives the Cowboys a 14-10 win and a 6-4 record.

It's not over yet.

...

Cowboys right to run right at Redskins

9:56 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

This is why you have Marion Barber.

The Cowboys workhorse running back's job now is to simply win the game.

He'll do that by just pounding the Redskins on play after play.

What makes Barber better and smarter than most backs is that he has the presence to stay in bounds and work the clock.

...

So that's Tank Johnson

9:47 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

I was wondering what happened to Tank Johnson the loquacious nose tackle has been absent on the field for much of the season and absent recently in the locker room.

In the preseason and early in the season he was talking a lot and the expectation from the preseason was he would be an impact player in the middle.

He has just 11 tackles and no sacks this season.

I mention all this because he made a nice tackle behind the ...

Big talker gives Cowboys lead

9:40 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Martellus Bennett, the Cowboys rookie tight end, loves to talk.

He's a pretty funny guy. He was even talking this week in the locker about how he really shouldn't talk much because he hasn't done much.

A 25-yard touchdown catch to give the Cowboys a 14-10 lead is something.

He can talk a little now and that shouldn't be too hard for him. The talking part, not the little part.

Romo must still like Favre

That little flick pass to Miles Austin for a first down was sure reminiscent of Brett Favre.

Of course Tony Romo grew up idolizing Favre.

Technical issues for Cowboys

9:28 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

On the television broadcast of the game, Andrea Kremer reported that the Cowboys are having some communication issues with the radio system that allows the defensive coaches to talk to linebacker Bradie James.

It's the same thing the offensive coaches use to talk to the quarterback and Kremer reported the Redskins have had similar issues.

Shaun Suisham helps Cowboys again

9:22 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Former Cowboys kicker Shaun Suisham did his old team a favor by missing a 46-yard field goal for the Redskins.

It doesn't matter much since the Cowboys have had a hard time sustaining much on offense.

Hello Newman

9:07 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

OK, I really like Seinfeld.

Now how about Terence Newman stopping a methodical drive by the Redskins to start the second half.

That was big because of the Cowboys' inability to score on offense, a Redskins touchdown would have made it a 10 point lead.

Big return sets up Redskins FG

8:41 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

Rock Cartwright used his now infamous rear ( see here and here ) for a 58-yard kick off return that led to a 40-yard field goal by former Cowboys kicker Shaun Suisham.

Redskins lead 10-7 at the half. Special teams bites the Cowboys again.

But then again there's no stopping R...

Some great halftime reading

8:38 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

If you want something to do during halftime, here is a great article from The New York Times about NFL referee Alberto Riveron, the first Hispanic to hold that job.

Read here. The last line is great.

Cowboys make use of Rock Cartwright's rear

8:33 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The difference of being pinned on their own 1-yard line and the 20 may have made for a huge difference for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Boys go 80-yards and use a crossing route by Terrell Owens to set up a Marion Barber touchdown that was confirmed by replay to tie the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.

...

Redskins get rear-ended

8:27 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The rear end of Rock Cartwright make for a 19 yard difference for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Redskins punt cover guy rolled just a little too far after downing a punt at the Cowboys 1-yard line, but since he rolled into the end zone and the ball touched his "rear" (that's how referee Jeff Triplette put it) it's a touchback.

We interrupt Cowboys to report an actual Mavs win

8:23 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

It's shocking but the Dallas Mavericks have actually won a game.

Here's more from the Associated Press:

Dirk Nowitzki scored seven of his season-high 39
points in overtime and grabbed 15 rebounds, and the Dallas
Mavericks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 124-114 victory
over the New York Knicks on Sunday.

Josh Howard added season highs of 31 points and 14 rebounds. He
had a pair o...

No more slants to T.O.

8:15 PM Sun, Nov 16, 2008 |
Aaron Chimbel

The Cowboys needs to stop throwing slant routes to Terrell Owens deep in Redskins territory.

Two have ended up as interceptions by Tony Romo.

The second was a bizarre one, where it looked like Owens was going to make the catch, but he was drilled by Carlos Rogers and the ball went flying up in the air and into the hands of Rocky McIntosh.

That's two interceptions in Romo's return on what should have been long scoring d...
