Seth Littrell has UNT playing for a Conference title

Seth Littrell has UNT at 9-3 and competing for a conference title in just his second year at the helm.

It's only year two for North Texas head coach Seth Littrell. And he's already got the Mean Green playing for a conference title.

"I don't put limits on our guys," Littrell says. "And I felt like if they would buy in, they put in the work needed, coaches they work hard and build the relationships, and you start to build that chemistry, I felt like we could do great things."

Great things to the tune of a 9-3 record. And a campus that is starting to recognize they've got a football program.

"Last year, I only had about five people stop and tell me 'hey, good job on Saturday'," quarterback Mason Fine said. "This year, it's been totally different.  Almost every day there's someone stopping us, telling us 'hey, proud of you guys'."

UNT has a high-powered offense, averaging 38 points per game this season.  But they're likely to need every bit of that and then some this weekend, facing a Florida Atlantic team that beat them by 38 points when they played six weeks ago.

"FAU was just playing faster," Fine explained. "So they were moving a little bit faster. So we've got to speed our tempo up.  I mean, we're playing with a lot of tempo, we move the football up and down the field. So just make sure we come with a lot of energy, and play with a lot of tempo, and we'll be alright."

And if they can do so, they might win their first conference championship since 2004.

"It would mean everything to this program," linebacker Brandon Garner said. "Me, being here four years, we've never been close to something like this before, and this organization hasn't.  So I think it'll bring this whole city together."

As long as you can score enough points.
