Troy Aikman ‘disappointed' by Fox Sports' Skip Bayless hiring

With Skip Bayless making his Fox Sports 1 debut, Tuesday is a monumental day for the network. But not everyone at the network is excited. NFL on FOX analyst Troy Aikman did not take the diplomatic route when asked about the hiring.

From Sports Illustrated:

“To say I’m disappointed in the hiring of Skip Bayless would be an enormous understatement,” Aikman said. “Clearly, [Fox Sports president of national networks] Jamie Horowitz and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to building a successful organization. I believe success is achieved by acquiring and developing talented, respected and credible individuals, none of which applies to Skip Bayless.”

Aikman’s animosity toward Bayless, who worked at The Dallas Morning News during Aikman’s career, is certainly understandable. In his book Hell Bent, Bayless asserted the former Cowboys quarterback was gay without evidence to back up the claim.

Here’s what Aikman had to say about Bayless’ assertion, via SI’s Richard Deitsch:

“I’m upset about it because it was made up and there was nothing accurate about anything that was insinuated,” Aikman said at the time. “And he did it, as he does everything, just for attention.”
