SMU's Chad Morris to be hired as Arkansas head coach

'It was never really a question of if Chad Morris would leave SMU - only a matter of when. SMU's not the job it used to be anymore, and hasn't been for a long time.'Do you agree with Dale Hansen?? Or should Mustangs fans expect better?

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - The University of Arkansas will hire SMU's Chad Morris to be its next head football coach, according to KTHV in Little Rock.

Morris has turned around the SMU football program in his three years there, taking the Mustangs to their first bowl game since 2012 this year. Still, Morris has compiled just a 14-22 record in three seasons at the helm at SMU.

He served as the offensive coordinator under Dabo Swinney at Clemson University before coming to Dallas.

According to multiple reports, Morris held a team meeting Wednesday morning to tell his SMU players about his decision to head northeast to the Natural State.

Jeff Traylor has been named interim head coach for the Mustangs. No word yet on official contract details.

The Razorbacks have been mired in mediocrity since back-to-back double-digit-win seasons in 2010-11 in Bobby Petrino's final years with the program. Arkansas has gone 33-42 since, making just three bowl games.

Arkansas went 4-8 in 2017 before firing head coach Bret Bielema.

Bielema took over in Fayeteville in December of 2012, leaving his head coaching job at the University of Wisconsin where he had coached since 2006.

Bielema held a record of 29-34 for the Razorbacks and ended the 2017 season just 1-7 in the SEC West. The university decided to let him go after the 48-45 loss against the Missouri Tigers on November 24, 2017.
