RICHARDSON — A North Texas sports team gone for almost a decade is getting ready to make a comeback. The Dallas Sidekicks indoor soccer team returns this fall. Now, the work is on to find the best players to join the team.
On Tuesday morning, News 8 traveled to Soccer Spectrum in Richardson to meet up with former Sidekicks star and champion Tatu. Today, Tatu is the head coach and General Manager of the team. The week of July 23rd, Tatu will be watching dozens of players in two tryout sessions. He told News 8 he’s looking for fast players able to play a quick paced indoor game. However, he stressed making the team is not just about having the pure physical ability to play. He said the most important quality is what’s on the inside.
"I think the most important is the character. I think that's the key,” Tatu explained. “You want good quality people who you can work with…and guys who want to be here. [Guys who] want to revive the history. I want guys who want to feel proud to be a Dallas Sidekick again. Because for myself and my teammates, I know every time we put that jersey on it was a proud moment for us."
The Dallas Sidekicks will start playing games this November at the Allen Event Center as an expansion team in the Professional Arena Soccer League. Two open tryout sessions will be July 23rd – July 24th, and July 25th-July 26th at the Inwood Soccer Center in Addison.
