DALLAS — Former Stars center Mike Modano confirmed with WFAA Sports that he is headed to Detroit to play for the Red Wings next season.

"I'm just excited about the opportunity to play in Detroit with a great team and organization, a team with a lot of skill," Modano said in a text message to Sean Hamilton, Director of Sports at WFAA.

Modano, 40,  is on an overseas golf outing with three of his former teammates, including Marty Turco, Brenden Morrow and Brad Richards.

Modano said he shot a 74 at St. Andrews, one of 14 rounds he is playing in seven days. He said he walked all the courses and in his words, says he's "Fried!"

Earlier Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported that Modano will sign a one-year contract for $1.25 million to become the team's third line center.
