DALLAS -- It's not often that NBA players are suspended indefinitely by their team. Rarer still is when it happens twice in a-week-and-a-half.

That's what happened to Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West.

Thursday morning, the team sent out a press release in which team President Donnie Nelson said only, "We have suspended Delonte for conduct detrimental to the team. The suspension is effective immediately and no other statements will be issued."

About the same time, West began tweeting from

his account, @CharleeRedz13

. Here those are in chronological order:

8:45 a.m. "I'm gonna just pray for um!!!...perception is not reality!!!..real is real...in any language,culture...and what's wrong is what's wrong!!"

9:19 a.m. "All my family friends fans...who been right der wit me this uphill battle over the last 4years to get to this point....already know"

9:21 a.m. "That my name showin up in any fashion in a negative light is the worst thing that can happen.everything Ived worked towards out d window"

9:23 a.m. "Just ask u to talk with me....I'm a grown man...that's not above logic and reason...Before u go to the papers wit false information."

9:25 a.m. "If I'm not what u lookin 4 ....That's fine...just dont kick me in my [butt] on the way out the door....I didn't do anything to deserve that..."

9:26 a.m. "I love the city of Dallas..I love playin in the NBA...no I'm not off my meds...no I ain't on no bipolar trip...this real people lives.."

9:28 a.m. "And it just ain't right..imma leave it at that..no ill will towards no one...I'm just sittin here across from the arena wit tear in my eyes"

West hadn't tweeted since as of 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Mavericks practiced at noon on Thursday, and unless players had seen West's twitter feed, that was the first they heard of the suspension.

Vince Carter said that Carlisle told the team about it before practice began. The players we talked to didn't know much about what happened.

"They just said, 'this is what happened, we're dealing with it,'" Carter said. "Yes sir. Still got a job to do."

Shawn Marion said that he and his teammates are professionals with a job to do.

"That's between them upstairs, and they going to handle that problem," Marion said. "I wish him the best. He's a helluva player, I like Delonte.

"He got some stuff he needs to work out with them, and it's okay," he continued. "We still gotta go on and focus on our task at hand."

Carter said that West is a friend of his, calling him a "great guy," and planned to reach out to him after practice.

"If he wants to sit and then talk and vent, that's what I'm around for. I enjoy that," Carter said. "Other than that, I tell you what, we're losing a competitor. That's just plain and simple."

Carlisle wouldn't speak directly about West's situation, referring to the press release. But he did talk about the team moving forward.

"We got a lot of veterans that have been through situations where there've been injuries and all kinds of different things," Carlisle said. "The bus keeps going.

"I've been through this many times, and you got two choices: you can lament what you don't have, or you can try to maximize what you have available, and hope the guys that aren't available get available," Carlisle continued. "We're going to do the latter. We're going to push forward with the guys we have."
