DALLAS -- Rick Carlisle and Donnie Nelson will meet with guard Delonte West Tuesday afternoon after the Mavericks suspended the West after Monday night's game for conduct detrimental to the team.

"He's been suspended," Carlisle said. "We're going to talk to him today a little later -- Donnie [Nelson] and I are -- and see if we can get it resolved quickly."

Asked whether Carlisle expects West to be out long, the coach responded, "I hope not. I hope not."

Asked whether there is a chance West plays Wednesday against Phoenix, Carlisle said, "Until we talk to him and hash through it, I won't know for sure."

Asked whether West "gets it" -- whether he fully understands the situation -- Carlisle confirmed that he did.

After the news broke, two tweets came from West's twitter account (@CharleeRedz13), and they have since been removed. The first read, "Sorry mama..." and the second, "I showed off on ur birthday again..."

West has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which he said contributed to a 2009 off-court incident in which he was arrested on weapons charges. He was suspended 10 games by the NBA for that incident.

Reading between the lines -- which is what we're left to do because we got so little information -- it sounded to me like West has a chance to rejoin the team fairly quickly, as long as he says all the right things when he meets with Nelson and Carlisle.

Newcomer O.J. Mayo said he did not witness the incident, but did read about it.

"We have a great locker room -- pretty sure guys are giving D-West a call, making sure all's well," Mayo said. "Pretty sure coach will deal with it, felt like it was best for the team at the time. And when he comes back, we'll have open arms open for him, welcome him back and continue working."

Carlisle and Nelson will know more about the situation after they talk with West. The rest of us will know more whenever they decide to tell us.

But with the next game scheduled for tomorrow night, we'll see for ourselves whether West plays, is on the bench, or is nowhere to be found.
