DeSOTO -- DeSoto High Head Football Coach Claude Mathis has spent way too much time on the phone the last couple days, and a big reason for that is the actions of another coach.
Chip Kelly left the University of Oregon for the Philadelphia Eagles this week.
That made DeSoto running back Dontre Wilson back off from his commitment to Oregon. He still might go there, but he's added two more schools to the mix.
The star running back said his choices are now Ohio State, Oklahoma State, and Oregon.
In fact,Wilson took a break from meeting with an Ohio State coach to talk with WFAA Sports. And even though he has narrowed his choices to those three schools, that won't stop the phone calls.
"It won't stop. It won't stop, because you never know. You just never know," Mathis said. "And I would do the same thing. I would do the exact same thing if I were coaching in college -- you fight to the end. And a player like Dontre, he's worth fighting to the end."
It's been a crazy week for Dontre. On Tuesday, he met with Chip Kelly, who came to DeSoto to visit his star recruit. Then on Wednesday, Kelly took the Philadelphia job.
"It was a very hard commitment [to Oregon,] because I always seen myself playing in their offense," Wilson said. "Chip Kelly, he was just here the day before -- he was just here with me. We were talking and stuff, he was talking to me like he was going to stay and everything."
Dontre was caught off guard, but regrouped, and now he has plans to visit Ohio State next weekend, and Oklahoma State the following weekend.
"It just feels like the beginning of my recruiting process all over," Wilson said.
But the end is near. National signing day is February 6.
