FLOWER MOUND -- Friends and family, including dozens of members of the Cowboys organization, gathered in Flower Mound to bid farewell to former Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano.
"Coach Joe," as most called him, died on April 5 in Italy. He was there coaching the Milan Seamen of the Italian Professional Football League.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, head coach Jason Garrett, and former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman were among those attending Tuesday's funeral service.
Jones talked about the passion and love Avezzano brought to the Cowboys and those he coached and with whom he worked.
"He lit up a room," said Bill Bates, former Cowboys special teams ace. "And he loved his guys."
The dozens and dozens of people gathered for his funeral showed how much he was loved back.
In true Cowboys spirit, Avezzano's casket was Cowboys blue with silver accents.
