The WFAA Bloggers' NFL mock draft
6. St Louis Rams -- WR Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State)
There are a few exterior motivating factors that make this pick a little more complicated than "best player available". This is the pick the Rams received in the Washington trade. The Rams never would have made the most interesting trade in NFL history if they didn't believe they could get the player they really wanted all along at #6. When Jeff Fisher was rumored to be interested in a return to NFL coaching, two teams immediately came to the forefront: St. Louis and Miami.
I told anybody who would listen that Fisher would never go to Miami because they didn't have a franchise quarterback or the means to acquire one. St. Louis has both. Sam Bradford is the reason Fisher chose St. Louis and the veteran coach will do everything in his power to make him successful. The Rams finished 30th in passing yards last year and have a putrid WR core filled with #3 receivers. Blackmon is big enough, fast enough and skilled enough to be a #1 in the NFL. Blackmon is the second best wide receiver prospect in the last 5 years (AJ Green is #1). Many have compared his game to that of Anquan Boldin. -- MIKE MARSHALL
