3:30 p.m. – Everyone has an opinion on Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Here’s former Cowboys running back Herschel Walker’s take on what the Cowboys should do if Manziel is available at 16.

“If they can get Johnny Manziel, that would be a great coup,” said Walker. “I think they gotta’ help the defense out a great deal. When you lose games that they lost in the closing seconds in the last couple of years, you want to beef up that defense.

“But if they can get Johnny Manziel, if he's on that board when they come up, they better take him.”

Thanks to our friends from KVUE in Austin for that.

First round picks for Dallas have been a mixed bag since DeMarcus Ware in 2005. The group features top contributors Dez Bryant and Tyron Smith, but also the likes of Bobby Carpenter and Mike Jenkins

9:30 a.m. -- ESPN's Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, Jr. released their seventh and final NFL mock drafts for 2014. McShay's latest mock draft had the Cowboys selecting Johnny Manziel with the no. 16 overall pick. He projected Dallas to take defensive players in each of his first six mock drafts (Timmy Jernigan, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and Calvin Pryor among them). McShay now reports that Manziel is no. 1 on the Cowboys' draft board.

Jerry Jones said in his pre-draft press conference that a quarterback is not the primary focus in the first round.

"In my view, our best shot is a healthy Tony Romo,” Jones said. “I'm not that gunned up over what a rookie quarterback could do for us this year. That takes time. This isn't rebuilding time.”

Manziel was the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M. Mel Kiper projected Ohio State linebacker Ryan Shazier to go to Dallas in his mock draft version 7.0 Thursday morning.
