Childress has endorsement from Vikings to continue

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Vikings coach Brad Childress is happy to be staying in Minnesota for several more years. Players say they're pleased his contract has been extended, too.

There was plenty of skepticism about Childress in his first two seasons while the Vikings struggled to find a rhythm on the field, and players had problems with his rigid style.

He has loosened up, though, and learned how to connect with a team that's currently sporting strong chemistry and an 8-1 record.

Childress signed his new deal on Thursday. He shared his appreciation of the players with them on Friday, and cornerback Cedric Griffin said afterward he saw the coach's eyes well up with tears. Childress says he's glad to be in a place he and his family love.
