GOLF IS THE GREATEST GAME
the nelson 1 week - colonial the next - reminds me again that golf is the greatest game ... and there's really nothing that comes close ---- it's the only game you can play when you're 12 and still play when you're 82
my grandfather started me playing when i was 12 ... and i played with him until he was 82 .... and i will cherish those memories until the day i die
but here's why it's the greatest game - you can't play basketball - baseball - football - hockey or soccer that long ... i guess you could play tennis ... but seriously - who wants to play tennis anyway
but this is what separates golf from all the rest - you can only play those games - especially tennis - with people of equal skill - i can play the world's best in golf tomorrow ... give me some strokes and we'll play for money - if i played rafael nadal or roger federer or any great tennis player - you can't handicap the game to make it a game
he serves ... i pick it up ... i serve ... he knocks it away
i can't play basketball with lebron james - can't find enough guys to play baseball or football ... but i can play golf by myself
and there's this too - is there a more honest game in the world today ? if rory mcilroy hit a ball near a lake - i wouldn't bother to walk over and ask him if it was dry - i know he'd tell me - ONLY PRO GOLFERS CALL PENALTIES ON THEMSELVES
would you play shirts and skins with dirk nowitzki and let him call fouls ?? would you play hoops with ANYBODY in the nba and let them call fouls ?? would you play any game OTHER THAN GOLF ... and let them referee too ?
now i'm not talking about some of the guys at your local club - those guys ruin the game and are an insult to the integrity of the game - AND THEY SHOULD ALL BE THROWN OUT
i can't beat you anymore ... but i won't cheat .... and i'm happy to play with you if you're 12 or 82 ... if you shoot 72 or 102 ....
