FORT WORTH — There was a big celebration overnight in Fort Worth as TCU became part of the Big 12 Conference.
Hundreds of students, coaches and fans gathered outside Billy Bob's Texas for a rally as the clock struck midnight.
"I can't thank you enough for showing up tonight," said TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte. "You know what? We never made an excuse why we weren't in. We fought our way back. We earned our way back. And today, we're in the big 12!"
TCU alumni Glenn Moore was just as excited. "We came out here today because this is historic," he said. "This is TCU returning to where it prominently belongs, here in the Big 12."
West Virginia also joined the Big 12 at midnight Saturday.
TCU's first football game against a Big 12 opponent is on September 15 against Kansas in Lawrence.
The Horned Frogs' first home game is set for October 6 against Iowa State.
