WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor was very defensive with its first signing class after one of the best seasons in school history.
The Bears had 13 defensive players among their signing class of 23 announced Wednesday. And that was equally spread, with four defensive linemen, four linebackers and five defensive backs.
Coach Art Briles says the Bears wanted to fill needs while also giving themselves every opportunity to be as good on defense as possible.
Baylor last season tied a school record with 10 wins and won their first bowl game in 19 years. They accomplished that while setting many offensive records with Heisman Trophy quarterback Robert Griffin III, who is bypassing his senior season for early entry into the NFL draft.
Among the signees was Seth Russell, a dual-threat quarterback from Garland, Texas.
